ACCA in collaboration with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus, is delighted to invite you to a multistakeholder conference on Cyprus - Connecting Continents through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Taking place on October 25, the conference will discuss the implications of China's grand scheme to link Asia and Europe together via new massive infrastructure projects in Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Balkans.
Launched in 2013 as "One Belt, One Road", the BRI is hugely ambitious and already has the support of the EU, the World Bank, the EBRD and many other financial and economic institutions.
Under the framework of the BRI, China and Cyprus have already achieved some progress in the areas of telecommunications, construction, tourism, ports, satellites, renewable energy, and in 2017, the Ministry of Education of China signed the Agreement with Cyprus on Mutual Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications and Degrees.
This conference will discuss the state of play with leading EU policy makers and business operators. It will also provide an insight into the opportunities and challenges of the BRI for Cypriot and other European business.
Speakers on the day include:
- Costas Mavrides, Cypriot Member of European Parliament
- Fraser Cameron, Director EU-Asia Centre
- Ville Varjola, Senior Adviser, Asia-Pacific, European External Action Service
- Leandros Papaphilippou, Senior partner and manager, L Papaphilippou & Co LLC
